About UConn Health
UConn Health is a vibrant, integrated academic medical center that is enjoying an era of unprecedented growth in all three areas of its mission: academics,
research, and clinical care. A commitment to health and well-being has been of utmost importance to UConn Health since the founding of the University of Connecticut Schools of
Medicine and Dental Medicine in 1961. We have expanded our medical missions over the decades based on a solid foundation of groundbreaking research, first-rate education, and
quality healthcare. In just over 50 years, UConn Health has evolved to encompass more research endeavors, providing leading-edge treatments and superior care while educating the
practitioners of tomorrow.
About Volunteer Services
Volunteer Services is a department within the Office of Patient Experience. The Office of Patient Experience encompasses a variety of areas dedicated to
enhancing the human experience in healthcare. Patient experience is defined as the sum of all interactions, shaped by an organization's culture, that influence patient perceptions
across the continuum of care. Our team is committed to creating a welcoming, respectful, and supportive environment for every patient and family while partnering across the
organization to promote compassionate, high-quality care.
UConn Health depends on over 40 regularly scheduled volunteers to help us provide patients, families, and visitors with the compassionate care and assistance that they need. The Volunteer Services Department is tasked with recruiting and training our much-needed volunteers, and we are always in need of volunteers with different skills. Because we are an academic medical center, this provides a variety of opportunities to fit personal schedules and individual preferences.
People choose to volunteer for a variety of reasons. Whatever your reason, the Volunteer Services Department staff will find the right opportunity for you.
Note: Volunteering is separate from any internship or shadowing experience required for a class or curriculum. Please email unpaidexperience@uchc.edu for information on shadowing or internships.
MissionVolunteer Services supports UConn Health and the Office of Patient Experience by recruiting, training, and empowering compassionate
volunteers who serve as welcoming ambassadors across our campus. Guided by respect, communication, teamwork, empathy, and kindness, our volunteers provide meaningful human
connection, support access and understanding, and enhance the patient, family, and visitor experience throughout the continuum of care.
